“We Won’t Give Up”

 

 

In the song “we won’t give up” by The Afters I believe that entire song uses repetition and imagery to provide the message of perseverance and success. I think that the entire song is basically telling you never to give up and to never back down no matter what is put in front of you that you no matter what it is are able to overcome it and able to achieve greatness and success as long as you put your mind to it.  To start off the song starts with an upbeat guitar tempo to set the tune and mood of the song. Throughout the whole song that same tempo never really changing to a new tempo to keep the tone of the song the same in my mind. 

 

The first lyrics begin nineteen seconds into the song with “Everywhere Everyday all we hear is all we hear is wait…its not your time just get back in line” first off the song uses the phrase “all we hear is” twice in my opinion they do this to make sure your attention is focused on the upcoming lyrics in the song. And then once they get to the next lyrics it shows how people in the world might tell you that it’s not quite your time and that you need to wait for your chance when in reality it might be your time and they are just holding you back. Next line goes “and they can try to knock us down we got our feet nailed to the ground” and to me that means exactly what it says that even when people try to knock us down as long as our feet are nailed to the ground or in other words as long as we stay strong and avoid the hits that they try to use to keep us down then we can overcome anything. “If you want to count us out go ahead, but it’s not over yet” is the next line. In this line it again seems pretty simple to analysis to mean this line means that no matter how many times you are counted out no matter how many times you may get knocked down when you don’t have your feet nailed to the ground you can always get back and overcome the odds and just like the end of the sentence says it’s not over yet.

Next in the song is the chorus. During the chorus the main line used is “we won’t back down and also the title of the song which is “we won’t give up” basically through the entire chorus emphasizing that there is no giving up that you must continue to fight you must continue to persevere. After the chorus the lines start to pick up again and the next line goes as “with the clock running down were going to leave our fears and failures all behind” in this line I immediately think sports…and why not it’s the easiest thing to relate to a clock running down. Whether its basketball or football as soon as that clock starts running down two things pop into your mind either number one the fear of potentially losing the game or losing the lead and then losing the game. Or the thought of failure also of losing the game. “This is our time we’ll reach till we touch the sky”. This line follows the sports line so my guessing is it means that even though you have those fears you can still get to the finish and win. Next is another chorus which again just basically emphasizes not backing down or giving up no matter what the odds. After the chorus the line goes “we won’t hold back and we won’t slow down the pace” this line to me means that you shouldn’t slow down your path to winning and hold back especially if you’re going against someone who isn’t holding back themselves. “We won’t let go and we won’t hold off the chase” is our next line and just like the rest of the lyrics it spreads a message of perseverance and continuing to fight until you chase down a victory. For the almost last time we hear another round of the chorus. After the first round the music pauses and a long guitar note is held to hike up the mood of the song and also to keep the listener in the song. After that we get another taste of the chorus for the last time as it ends out the song for us all in all keeping the mood of perseverance and success alive with not only the words and lyrics of the song but also the tunes and music behind the song making for one inspiring song to listen to.

 

So in conclusion you can find perseverance in anything around the world and can use it to your own personal life. You can find it in music, art, TV and you can find it in posters or commercials. But out of the categories where you can find the best messages of success and perseverance is in music and TV. But out of the two Music I believe has a better message because it’s all words with TV you have to guess whether it’s about success with music they basically tell you it is by using your words. In the song “we wont let go” by the after’s they do just that by using repetition of many different phrases especially in their chorus along with imagery of the clock running down and feet nailed to the ground all combining together to make a song that emphasizes the best of success and perseverance.
